I have been a Bucks County resident for 24 years. I was born and raised in Glenside, PA. I have a degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Temple University. I taught at a private preschool before my children were born and have in the past 4 years gone back to teaching “mommy and me” classes part time. I have always been draw to photography. First capturing my children’s early years and now in capturing nature’s beauty. I began to take photography seriously when my oldest daughter started riding horses competitively. A friend and fellow “show mom” saw how nervous I was at one show and handed me her camera and said “focus on trying to get the shot and it will be a lot easier to watch”. I was hooked! I was lucky enough to be able to borrow my friends camera at horse shows and then eventually able to obtain my own Nikon DSLR camera. I have always enjoyed shooting my daughter’s horse shows and enjoyed the joy her friends exhibited when they saw the pictures I took of them. Although I still shoot her shows, my new focus and passion is on nature photography. I am not a formally trained photographer. I have taken classes at Bucks County Community College, Grounds for Sculpture and 2 classes presented by Nikon. I have studied numerous websites and books to learn the technics I use to create my images, but for the most part I have learned by the seat of my pants and through trial and error! Practice, practice and more practice. Trying new things, new settings, new angles and new lighting to get the best shot.
You can see my work on my website www.bpkphoto.com or on Facebook at BPK Photography. I am currently a member of the Focal Planes Foto Club which is out of Silver Lake Nature Center in Bristol.
